Statement to voters

I live in the Langland area of Malvern so what matters to you is what matters to me.

Full statement

I retired to Malvern in 2024 after a lifetime working in the charitable sector where I have a proven record of innovation, whether in pioneering new approaches to debt advice, breaking down barriers to volunteering or local authority service commissioning and improvement. I tell it how it is and don’t make promises I can’t keep but when I say I’ll do something, I make sure it gets done.

I am married with grown up children and four grandchildren, and can be found daily walking the patch with my cockerpoo, Amber – often with a litter-picker as well. Malvern is our forever home and I love living here but I know there is a huge amount to do to improve people’s lives in some parts of the area and have the experience to make it happen.

These are my priorities if you elect me as your County Councillor:
• Safer routes to school – I regularly see children walking, cycling and scooting to & from school, who struggle to cross some of our busier roads at peak times. Initiatives like walking buses could be a great way to encourage safer, active school travel, helping to reduce car dependency;
• Supporting take-up work – as a former debt advice worker, I know how important it is to making ends meet for people to be getting all the help they’re entitled to, so I’d like to work with local agencies to help make this happen;
• Keeping it local – our councils are facing big changes which risk taking decision-making further away from local people. I’m committed to listening and working hard for the community and involving you as much as I can;
• The right houses in the right places – we face a housing crisis but Labour’s plan to take local people out of planning decisions and concrete over the countryside won’t help. We need to bring empty homes back into use and build more high quality council housing where it’s needed, without creating urban sprawl;
• Keeping you informed – I’m committed to staying in touch with voters to make sure I’m responding to your concerns and to let you know what’s happening.
