Full statement
I am a Chartered Management Account with 25 years experience of running an accountancy, tax and advisory business. I have also been an Examiner for the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Last July, for the first time in more than 40 years, I didn’t vote in the General Election. There was nobody on the ballot paper I felt I could trust with my vote to represent me. I know I was far from being alone in this regard and this disconnect is heightened in local elections where up to 70% of eligible voters won’t cast theirs. Instead of waiting for someone with my views and beliefs to step up, I have stepped up for the first time.
The Heritage Party slogan of Freedom, Family, Nation aligns with my views; namely to push back against the State micro-managing our lives, support traditional family values and preserve and encourage the best things about our country. Locally, it means keeping the countryside green, supporting farmers for the lifetime of back-breaking work they do for us, supporting youth with clubs and libraries, urging the council to focus sufficient funds to basics such as refuse collection and mending potholes. The Heritage Party is socially conservative and as such opposes more large scale housing developments, solar farms, net zero related policies and lockdowns.
We are a growing socially conservative Party. Still a small party and inevitably an “opposition” party, but one with firm principles and one that doesn’t have to kow-tow to central office directives from career driven politicians. Unfortunately, recent history has in my opinion demonstrated that their pursuit of power has proven to be more important to them than their use of it. As a professional and experienced accountant I would be very interested to scrutinise how the Council spends council tax payers’ money. YOUR money!
Thank you so much for reading.
