Statement to voters

Barbara has lived just up the road in Northborough for over 25 years, and plays an active part in the local community.

Full statement

Her career background is in housing policy as well as urban and regional planning. Latterly, she led the Housing & Regeneration Research Group at London South Bank University, where she carried out policy research and evaluations for government departments, local authorities and other public bodies across the UK.

Having retired from that work, Barbara now leads an organisation she founded which supports professional development and mindfulness in people working in public services and non-profits.

Barbara also volunteers with organisations that support people who are bereaved, as well as being involved with ‘Shared Reading’, an initiative led by The Reader charity which works with libraries and community groups. And in her spare time, Barbara enjoys being a member of local tai chi, yoga, folk music and walking groups.
Barbara Reid, Labour’s candidate, said:

“I’m proud to be standing to represent Barnack ward. Having lived locally for over 25 years, I know the issues residents want to see action on, and I’ll be a councillor committed to making a difference for our local area.

“Labour has set out a strong vision for Peterborough City Council to reduce poverty, build stronger community health and social care services, and work to reduce loneliness and isolation among older people. I want to be part of delivering that change for people across our area.

“With a background in housing and planning, I know the importance of making sure development fits into the character of our local area, and will make sure that any new housing comes with green spaces and other community facilities for existing residents to make use of.

“I hope residents will put their trust in me to represent our communities on the council. If anyone has anything they’d like to raise with me, I’d be delighted to have a conversation.”
