On 1 May you will have your say about the future of our part of Cornwall.

Some of you will want to use these elections to send a message - about the importance of protecting the environment, or cutting immigration, or what you think about the Prime Minister. I totally understand that.

But if you want to elect a councillor who will stand up for you in County Hall, and make sure that you are represented in discussions about our future, I can be that councillor.
Local democracy shouldn’t start and end with a vote every five years.

Over the last few months, I have been knocking on doors across the division, and it’s clear that people want a councillor who listens to concerns and takes action.

I’ve also learned that the issues I care about - building thriving communities with good jobs, affordable homes and decent roads and buses - are the issues you care about.

I haven’t always lived in Newlyn - I grew up in a village in the West Country, and worked as a lawyer in London for too long - but since my family moved here I’ve come to love this very special corner of Cornwall and the people who live here.

I’m a freelance journalist and writer, but I spent the last few years working in the office of your local MP. I found getting results for local residents incredibly rewarding, and it would be an honour to carry on this work as a Cornwall councillor.

I am standing as a Conservative not because I want to impose my political views on the area, but because Conservativism means helping people live their own lives and choose their own future. You know what you need for your family better than any politician, and I want to help you achieve it.
