Statement to voters
My name is Jason Gelver.
Full statement
I was born and raised in Whitton, Twickenham, before moving to Sunbury-on-Thames in the mid-80s. Since then, I’ve lived in various parts of Spelthorne, developing strong connections across the community.
I’m a dedicated family man, happily married with two children. My youngest is in his final year of secondary school, diligently preparing for his exams, while my eldest is a trained medic and a part-time firefighter—both embodying a strong sense of responsibility and service. Our household wouldn’t be complete without our two dogs, who relish long walks in our beautiful local parks.
Politically, I once aligned with the Conservative Party, but over time, I’ve grown disillusioned with their leadership and lackluster performance. When Labour took office in 1997, I was deeply concerned, seeing it as the beginning of a slow and painful decline for our country. UKIP briefly brought a glimmer of hope, but breaking into the political establishment proved challenging. Then came Reform UK—a party that resonated with my values and those of many like-minded individuals around me. Their fresh, dynamic approach inspired me, and before long, I became actively involved, signing up as a prospective candidate.
Beyond politics, I juggle multiple responsibilities. I run two businesses, support my wife’s entrepreneurial ventures, and oversee an IT department for a military sub-contractor. With over 30 years in the IT industry, I’ve progressed from a helpdesk operative to an IT Service Delivery Manager, a role that has taken me across the globe—including time spent in an active war zone supporting our military.
I consider myself a ‘jack of all trades’—someone unafraid to roll up my sleeves and tackle challenges head-on. This hands-on approach, combined with my wealth of practical experience and sound judgment, makes me a strong candidate for election.
While I may be new to politics, I see this as an advantage. I have no entrenched political baggage or hidden agendas—just a commitment to honesty, integrity, and doing what’s best for the voters. My goal is not only to earn the trust of those who support me but also to prove my worth to those who may have initially doubted me.
My priorities align with the local community's priorities, which are:
Tackle anti-social behaviour.
Regeneration of our High Street.
Fight to preserve 2 hours of free parking in the High Street.
Protect our local green spaces and our town from over development.
Work to improve residents quality of life.
