Statement to voters

Laurie Moffat is a proud Lochgelly resident, ex-pupil of Lochgelly High School and Robert Gordon University, and is standing as your Sovereignty candidate under the Liberate Scotland banner for Cowdenbeath in the 2026 Scottish Parliament election.

Full statement

My family’s story and deep roots in Fife’s “Little Moscow” in Lumphinnans—the communist-strong coalfields—inspire my fight, with relatives Abe and Alex Moffat leading union activism there, battling for the rights of miners and their communities,” says Laurie. “This heritage ties to local legend Jim Baxter, whose father Bert Moffat was their cousin, connecting our shared Fife story.

Inspired by Sara Salyers’ speech on the Claim of Right and restoring Scotland’s sovereignty, I’ve signed the Edinburgh Proclamation to reclaim our rights. I’ll fight deindustrialisation—inevitable under the current system—championing economic justice, equality of opportunity, and regeneration to create jobs and secure a prosperous future for every generation.

With a career in oil and gas transitioning to renewables, I’m committed to the environment, innovation, and sustainability. I stand for Scottish independence from the UK and EU, reclaiming our voice. I’ll fight for you—join me in building a sovereign Scotland.
