Full statement
As a housing support worker, he supports residents facing homelessness, overcrowding and housing disrepair, giving him a clear understanding of the pressures many local families are under and what practical help can make the biggest difference.
Originally from Hong Kong, Simon came to the UK as a refugee after being targeted for his pro-democracy activism. Britain gave him safety and the chance to rebuild his life, and he is determined to give back by standing up for fairness, dignity and opportunity for all.
Simon founded a community organisation supporting Hongkongers and other new arrivals under the BN(O) route. Through this work he has helped thousands of migrants and refugees to settle, access services and thrive, strengthening community cohesion and building bridges between neighbours. His leadership has been recognised nationally, reflecting the values of solidarity, equality and public service that he brings to everything he does.
Since joining Labour, Simon has served as a ward organiser, helping to lead campaigns across Brent and working closely with local members and residents. Known for his energy, teamwork and reliability, he is committed to building an inclusive, people-powered Labour movement that listens and delivers.
Simon believes Labour is the only party with the values and the plan to bring real change to Queensbury. He will fight for decent, secure housing, strong local services and climate action that improves daily life, and he will always be a visible councillor who works hard and follows through. With lived experience as a refugee, daily work supporting local people, and a clear commitment to human rights, Simon will stand up for every resident and help Queensbury move forward together.
