Statement to voters
I have lived in Haslemere since 2013 and became a Town Councillor in 2023.
Full statement
With a background in science I worked in IT for many years. Since Covid, like so many I had to find a new path. Not having to commute has been an opportunity for me to refocus on what I value most, to connect more with the local community and work for the environment.
Haslemere is a wonderful place - we are lucky to live amongst beautiful countryside, and the town and surrounding villages boast a community of people who are active and engaged. I’ve been involved in many local initiatives to improve the area and am a strong advocate for equitable housing and better transport.
Transport
Most of us both live near and use roads, so getting transport right matters. Potholes are a serious hazard and could be better addressed by bringing repairs back in-house to improve quality. Lower speed limits make roads safer and more pleasant with little impact on journey times, studies show they actually improve traffic flow.Town Centres and High Streets
People spend more time (and money) in pleasant, pedestrian-friendly town centres. Therefore encouraging active travel and improving public spaces improves our quality of life and supports local businesses.Energy
We live in a volatile world—it’s common sense that as a community we work to become more resilient and independent of oil and gas, by insulating homes and making sustainable energy sources (like solar panels) a priority.Education
Improving education starts with listening to parents’ and teachers' real concerns with empathy and respect. By fighting for the resources needed to support special educational needs (SEND), we can build a system that works for every child—and ensure no one is left without future prospects. This would benefit all children including those who do not need extra support.Housing
Housing must be both affordable and sustainable for all. That means pushing for genuinely affordable homes, built to high environmental standards, and designed as part of connected, liveable neighbourhoods.Nature
Protecting nature is not optional—it’s essential. I will work to safeguard green spaces, enhance biodiversity, and ensure new developments respect the natural environment.Above all, I will listen to residents, act with integrity, and focus on delivering real, lasting improvements. Together, we can build a community that works better now—and for generations to come.
