Statement to voters

The Alliance to Liberate Scotland is proud to introduce Konrad Rekas, a respected local accountant and passionate community advocate, as its candidate for the upcoming council by-election in the George Street/Harbour ward in Aberdeen

Rekas, 50, brings proven financial expertise and a no-nonsense commitment to putting Aberdonians first in the fight for a prosperous, independent Scotland.

Full statement

A qualified accountant working as an account manager and advisor for a local company, Konrad Rekas represents the hard-working New Scots who have chosen Aberdeen as their home and are determined to secure its future. He pledges to be directly accountable to the people of Aberdeen – not to party whips in Westminster or Holyrood – delivering straight-talking representation that puts local needs above party agendas.

“I’m standing because Aberdeen deserves better,” said Rekas. “Local businesses are under permanent threat from Aberdeen City Council’s mismanagement. We must reopen our city immediately – scrap the Low Emission Zone, remove the bus gates, and halt further pedestrianisation that’s choking enterprise. Look at George Street and its neighbourhood: when the Council doesn’t interfere, Aberdonians achieve great things.”

Rekas is clear that both Westminster and Holyrood abandoned the North Sea oil sector for blind ideology, leaving local business as the best hope for jobs and genuine development. He is equally outspoken on the failures of public transport, highlighting expensive fares and the £13.9 million hydrogen bus fiasco that has delivered poor value with no accountability.“Why has no one been held responsible for this disaster?” he asks. “The Council’s culture of incompetence and zero accountability must end. Drivers face worsening conditions while our buses fail the public.

”On community safety and fairness, Rekas is resolute: “People have every right to feel concerned about personal security. Aberdeen should not be at the top of the asylum seekers’ relocation list while our own residents wait endlessly for council housing. Humanitarian considerations matter, but we must prioritise those already living here, working here, and contributing to our community. As a New Scot myself, I am deeply grateful for the welcome Aberdeen gave me. I earned everything through hard work – not demands – and I will fight for the same opportunity for every Aberdonian.”

Rekas also sharply criticises the Aberdeen beachfront project, describing it as a “delusion of grandeur” that is too big, too expensive, repeatedly delayed, and disruptive to residents without guaranteed benefits. He demands wiser investment and proper protection for unique areas like Footdee (Fittie), suggesting consideration of a modest visitor contribution to safeguard local infrastructure in this residential community rather than treating it merely as a tourist spot.

With Union Street struggling, Rekas believes George Street and the Harbour have become the true heart of Aberdeen and must receive the respect and targeted infrastructure investment they deserve.

The Alliance to Liberate Scotland believes Konrad Rekas embodies the change Aberdeen needs: a principled, experienced voice who will champion independence while delivering practical, accountable local leadership. Free from the constraints of traditional party machines, he will listen to voters and fight relentlessly for a thriving, self-governing Scotland where Aberdeen leads once more.
