Matt Romo's policies
Statement to voters
Born at Whipps Cross, I am a lifelong Chingford resident with 8 years experience working in the NHS and social care, instilling in me a sense of service to local people.
Full statement
I know the area and will put residents’ voices at the heart of everything if elected, particularly those more in need.
Most recently I’ve worked in occupational therapy with older adults and disabled people in the community, assisting with assessments for home adaptations. Before that, in nursing, with adolescents in mental health crisis.
My first job in the NHS was in safeguarding, where I compiled information to track perpetrators of abuse and worked across agencies for the safety of residents. My first ever job was working at Sports Direct in Chingford for £5 an hour at 16.
In my new role working for NELFT in Waltham Forest, I am amplifying patient and carer voices, coproducing change and improvement to services, alongside those that use them and their families.
I’m proud to stand here, having competed with Chingford Rugby Club for 6 years and with Waltham Forest Gators in swimming.
A strong sense of community started out in the Scout Association, where I spent 11 years of my youth and volunteered frequently at Gilwell Park, running activities for young people.
I also volunteer at Hawkwood Nature Reserve, keeping local green spaces tidy where I grew up and volunteered at Highams Hub foodbank during COVID lockdown.
