Statement to voters

My Name is Sean Moffat
Born and raised in Edinburgh from 1991.

Full statement

I am a lifelong patriotic resident of this amazing city and was educated at Forrester High School.
I have lived and worked in Edinburgh my entire life and know the communities of Edinburgh and Lothians East better than most.
Like many of you, I have voted in every Scottish Parliament and UK General Election, as well as both the 2014 Scottish Independence referendum and the 2016 Brexit referendum.
Before 2014, I voted SNP.
In the first independence referendum, I voted Yes.
But after the result, I completely lost trust in the SNP when they repeatedly misrepresented the facts — and in doing so gave Scotland and its democracy a disrespectful slap in the face by not respecting the decision given in 2014.
For me, that was the red line: I did not want to swap one form of dependence on a union for dependence on another. That is why I voted to leave in the Brexit referendum.
In the elections that followed, I supported the Conservatives because they delivered Brexit and seemed to stand up for the Union. But during the Covid pandemic, I lost all remaining faith in them, too. By the 2024 General Election, I voted Reform UK, looking for a party that would finally put British citizens first.

I have now joined Advance UK because it is the only party offering a fresh, principled alternative that rejects the failed politics of the past.
I am standing as your candidate for Edinburgh and Lothians East in the Scottish Parliament election on 7 May 2026 because this region deserves better. For too long, voters here have been ignored while politicians in Holyrood obsess over another independence referendum. Meanwhile, the real issues that affect everyday life — the cost of living, housing shortages, pressures on our NHS, falling education standards, and community safety — have been pushed down the agenda.

I believe in a United Kingdom that works for the people who live here. That means defending our union, rejecting divisive nationalism, No not freindly internal tit for tat, controlling our borders, and delivering practical, common-sense solutions that improve lives right here in Edinburgh and Lothian East.

Advance UK is the only party offering a fresh, principled alternative that puts British citizens and our shared future first.

As your representative, I will be a strong, consistent voice for the working people of this region.
I will fight for policies that put money back in your pocket, protect our public services, restore our communities, and push to ensure Scotland remains securely part of the United Kingdom.
As we democratically decided to do.

I am not a career politician.
I am a local family man who has had enough of the same old failures and is now ready to put the interests of Edinburgh and Lothians East voters first.
