Full statement

🏙️ Vote Emily for ACCOUNTABILITY on Civic:

  • For nine months, I've investigated the regeneration, finding evidence of local traders being affected by gentrification. The council continually misleads the public with vague answers, and maintains a wall of silence on even basic questions.

  • To this day, the council refuses to confirm if the planned 1,600 homes in the second phase of the regeneration, or the new Civic venues, will be legitimately affordable, using "commercial secrecy" on an 80% council-owned project to keep true costs from the public and protecting corporate interests instead, while our residents wait up to TWENTY years for a social home.

  • I will demand at least 30% of new social homes to be for working age adults, and 30% of new homes built to be social homes. I will get to the bottom of this mess and prioritise people's voices in this key project for Woodhouse Park, rather than accept top-down planning by the government.

🛏️ Vote Emily for SCRUTINY in Housing:

  • No one should be left out in the cold due to repeated failures to manage local housing waiting lists. As someone who has been homeless in Manchester three times, I know firsthand how it feels to be repeatedly failed over and over. I will directly challenge Manchester City Council on unfair housing register decisions and policies.

  • Nobody should suffer in unfit, cold, mould-ridden housing. It’s hardly in the spirit of the Wythenshawe we love. I will work with the Wythenshawe Community Housing Group to scrutinise maintenance work, urgently identify properties needing repair, and direct any local financial assistance to be also given to homeowners in poverty.

🏥 Vote Emily to SAFEGUARD the future:

  • As kids have nowhere to go in the real world, they're pushed toward the dark parts of the internet. Consequently, anti-social behaviour in Woodhouse Park continues unabated, kids get hurt on tram tracks, and criminalised simply for being bored.

  • By using local funding, I'll work with the council to open new social spaces for youth, and make Big Wood a viable park at night and in wet weather by adding lighting, walkways, and benches.

⛲ Vote Emily to IMPROVE local services:

  • I will campaign for extra crisis cafes in Woodhouse Park to address mental health inequalities, building on the success of Safespots and using places such as the Recovery Lounge in Manchester as a potential model.

  • I will work with Greater Manchester Police to release accurate, accessible local crime data so we can make informed targeted decision on resolving crime, and I am also identifying major transport issues in our bus and train routes.

  • I'm also fighting to fix potholes in Woodhouse Park, and pushing for Airport parking to be banished on residents' streets via a free permit scheme, where offenders are fined & clamped with the revenues given to the local community.

📖 Emily's LOCAL to Woodhouse Park:
I reside in the area, I run a Pride here, and I will fight for Woodhouse Park whatever it takes. I will hold the council to account and truly listen to your concerns, when you next need assistance from your local councillors.

☑️ The Only Way, is the Independent Way. Vote EMILY CHOMICZ, 7th May.

Promoted by Emily Chomicz at Queer Love Riot, 1st Floor, Swan St, Manchester, M4 5JW.
