I worked in construction for several years before moving into rail maintenance as a track worker. I am a committed trade unionist and proud to represent other track workers in helping to keep them safe in the work place and protect their pay and conditions. Having worked on zero hour and agency contracts in the past I believe in permanent, secure jobs for all and that above all hard work should pay well - too many public services are outsourced to contracting firms whose focus is on enriching their shareholders rather than providing good services for local residents.
I am fiercely proud of St Helier Hospital, where my dad passed away last year, and of the people who work there. It is a central part of the community as well as an essential service and I would oppose any attempt to move any part of its provision to other parts of the borough.
I firmly believe in democracy, diversity and a fair slice of the cake for everyone, regardless of where they started in life and would welcome the chance to represent you as your ward councillor.
