Statement to voters

I’m proud to be standing as the Green Party candidate for Gipping Valley in the County Council elections on May 7th.

Full statement

I believe that an effective County Council should focus on delivering essential services well while protecting the countryside and environment that make this area special.

Across Gipping Valley, residents are raising practical concerns about deteriorating roads and pavements, flooding that continues to affect homes and businesses, and the difficulty many people face getting around without relying on a car. Families are also too often left struggling to secure the SEND support their children are entitled to, having to battle every step of the way. These are not abstract issues, they affect everyday life for people in Gipping Valley.

The County Council has a direct role in addressing these challenges, from maintaining roads and supporting rural transport, to improving SEND provision and managing flood risk. I want to see a more consistent, practical approach that focuses on getting the basics right and delivering outcomes that people can rely on.

That means pushing for road repairs that last, not an endless cycle of patching, better rural transport options, stronger flood protection, and a more supportive and reliable system for children with SEND and their families. It also means protecting our local environment and countryside as pressures on our area continue to grow. It is not NIMBYism to care about protecting our environment and biodiversity, or to expect that new development is supported by the right infrastructure.

I have experience in local government as a Town Councillor and Deputy Mayor in neighbouring Needham Market, and I understand how to work with residents and officers to get things done. I will be an accessible and responsive councillor, focused on resolving issues and making sure Gipping Valley has a strong and effective voice at Suffolk County Council.

I'm keen to meet as many people as possible in the weeks ahead, and to support with any issues that you might be experiencing. Feel free to contact me here and let me know about any issues and I'll do my best to help.
