Statement to voters
Meet Grace Aydin: Your Conservative Candidate for Abbey Wood
As an Abbey Wood resident , my motivation is simple: the health, safety, and education of my children, and every child in this community.
Full statement
I studied Law at Trinity College Dublin, understanding the importance of justice and fairness. Later, as a religious journalist for a major media network, I learned the significance of listening to people’s stories and advocating for their deeply held beliefs.
Now, I want to use that experience to fight for you.
Uniting Abbey Wood Through Shared Values
Abbey Wood is home to a beautiful array of cultures and backgrounds. For years, I have worked extensively with various charities and religious organisations to bridge divides and organise community events. I have seen firsthand that while our backgrounds may be diverse, our core interests are the same: we all cherish family, we all value our community, and we all want to celebrate the joy our diverse cultures bring to our neighbourhoods. With my husband being born in Africa with a British and Turkish mixed background; my children flourish with access to many interesting and unique cultural experiences from many supportive and respectful communities.
I am deeply committed to protecting religious freedom and ensuring that residents from all countries in Abbey Wood have a voice on the council. By focusing on the family values that unite us, we can build a stronger, more cohesive ward.
My Priorities for Our Neighbourhood
To make Abbey Wood a better place, I am focusing on the issues that impact our daily lives right here on our streets:-> Clean and Safe Streets : Every child deserves to commute to school and enjoy their school holidays without the fear of crime or harassment. I will fight for better local policing, improved street lighting, and a zero-tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour so everyone feels secure in their own neighbourhood.
-> Opportunities for the Next Generation : Our young people shouldn’t have to leave the borough to find success. As a business owner, I am passionate about creating accessible, and sustainable jobs locally for young graduates and school leavers.
-> Supporting the Vulnerable : We must ensure Abbey Wood is a place where our working-class families can thrive and where our elderly residents are treated with the dignity, care, and respect they deserve.
A Fresh Voice for Abbey Wood
For too long, local concerns have been ignored. I am standing in this election to bring a fresh, real-world perspective to the council—one driven by the protective instinct of a mother, the practical mindset of a business owner, and the dedication of a community organizer.
On Thursday, May 7th , I am asking for your vote.Together, we can build a safer, cleaner, and more prosperous Abbey Wood for our families!
