Statement to voters
A message from Ceewhy Ochoga
I am privileged to be one of your Labour candidates for Cadishead and Lower Irlam ward and I am ready to hit the ground running to represent and support my local community.
Full statement
I’m not new to representing people. As President of the University of Salford Students’ Union, I was elected to speak up for thousands of students, listen to their concerns, and make sure their voices were heard where decisions were made. That experience shaped how I see public service – it’s about showing up, being accountable, and following through.
Alongside that, I have been involved in community leadership, voluntary work, and local initiatives for a number of years. I understand what it means to work with people, not just for them.
Over the past few weeks I’ve been knocking on doors, attending meetings, and listening. I have met families who care deeply about their neighbourhood, residents who take pride in their streets, and people who simply want to see their community continue to thrive. You’ve told me about potholes damaging your cars, traffic frustrations on local roads, and most of all the feeling that decisions get made at the council without residents being properly asked first. These are not just complaints, they are real concerns that affect daily life.
If you elect me, you’ll see me here. At your events, at your meetings, and at your door. I’ll bring your concerns directly to the council table, and I’ll work hard to protect the strong community spirit that makes Cadishead and Lower Irlam special.
I want to build on that by being a councillor who is genuinely present in the ward. Someone you can reach easily, who listens, and who makes sure your voice is heard at the council.
I’m looking forward to working alongside you and alongside Bill to make real improvements together.
