Statement to voters

I have lived and grown up in Beckenham my entire life and I have many fond memories of the area.

Full statement

Our community is what makes us special. The familiar faces at local cafes and pubs, the chippy down the road and other restaurants and local shops that make the area feel like home. Politics has become too much about shouting the loudest and driving a divisive agenda. I’m not here to shout; I’m here to listen and get things done, and if elected, I’ll do exactly that.
I am immensely proud to be one of the youngest candidates running in this election and supporting young people throughout the borough is a priority of mine. As someone who has recently left school and moved to pursue my undergraduate degree in law, I remember my time in education well. If elected, I will ensure that schools across the borough are properly supported, especially SEND students. Almost a fifth of pupils in Bromley have SEND; I’d push for greater accessibility inside and out of the classroom and ensure support for both students, teachers and parents. Likewise, outside of school I want to ensure adequate investment and support into youth services, after-school programmes and safe spaces.
I am also too familiar now with rising rent prices and unaffordable housing, an imploding job market and a world torn apart by climate change; all burdens that young people now face. Yet, the cost of living crisis affects us all. I plan to support all residents through the cost of living crisis and pushing for genuinely affordable and accessible social housing. I’d also push to make Bromley a ‘living wage’ borough, promoting the living wage rather than minimum wage through all council employment, partnerships and contracts.
Residents constantly bring up crime as a massive issue in the area. I’d liaise with local authorities and residents to input schemes to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, reduce shoplifting and increase safety on the streets. Likewise, I’d work to tackle graffiti and vandalism across our community and protect our local pride.
As someone with a legal background, I have conducted extensive research into environmental law over the past seven months. We are ever so lucky to have such an abundance of diverse green spaces in Bromley. I care deeply about protecting these green spaces so they are safe and healthy for wildlife and residents. They should remain spaces for peaceful Sunday afternoon walks, Saturday kick-abouts and other youth activities and family picnics.
I am proud to be standing in Clock House to give the opportunity to residents to vote Green on the 7th of May. Voting Green is a vote for hope, a vote for community and a vote for a fairer, kinder future for ourselves and the generations to come.
