My name is Eleanor Cooke, and you may have seen me around litter-picking, visiting my grandfather or, in the case of fellow residents on Lovell Road, knocking on doors trying to return a lost dog.

I didn't plan to get into politics. I am running for city councillor in Kings Hedges because, frankly, I am terrified.

Other people my age (I admit I'm young to be doing this) are drifting to extremes, choosing among parties that I find populist and dangerous. I'm scared of where that's going to end, just like I'm scared of any number of worldly issues, like misinformation and a lack of community.

Like most people, I have strong views on many issues. I just don't think they really matter for a local representative. Because this isn't about what I believe, or what you believe. It's about local issues, being dealt with by local people.

If elected, I will be easily accessible. I will go door-to-door working out the biggest problems in Kings Hedges and how to solve them.

Although I am running as an Independent, I am endorsed by two other Independents: David in Newnham and Khalid in Castle. Both are decent, and I believe they will serve the residents in their wards faithfully.

You've been living with poor options recently. Maybe you've even given up on the local elections entirely. So I'm asking you to take a chance. If I am elected, it will be worth it.
