Full statement
A teacher in a secondary school, teaching both science and law, Chris is passionate about giving everyone a fair start in life. Chris has stood for Parliament on four previous occasions, having stood in Kettering constituency in 2010.
Chris passionately campaigned for a Remain vote in the European Union referendum and is commited to stopping Brexit, and believes it is important to give people the choice to vote to put an end to the Brexit disaster.
Locally, Chris wants to make sure that our towns are not forgotten. Committed to increasing spending on schools, and delighted by Liberal Democrat plans for a 'skills wallet' to provide every adult over 25 with the funds to pay for new skills and training, Chris wants to see Northamptonshire lead the way in embracing a green economy, giving good quality jobs, helping people to retrain if they ned to and safeguarding further education. To do this we must make sure our schools are delivering for young people, by reversing Tory cuts and promoting good quality vocational education, as well as ensuring ensure that there is proper investment in health and social care to look after everyone in our society.
As someone who is both openly bisexual and openly disabled, being a stammerer, Chris is motivated by his personal experiences and is absolutely commited to upholding the rights of all people of all backgrounds to get on in life without discrimination or barriers. Chris is determined to speak up for other people who are fighting to be heard in the workplace and those who have to face up to little acts of discrimination in their everyday lives. In Parliament, he would vote to defend the Human Rights Act and resist Conservative attempts to water down workers’ rights. Chris is unsuprisngly also a firm advocate of LGBT+ rights – in stark opposition to sitting Conservative MP Philip Hollobone – supporting equal marriage, opposing the transgender ‘spousal veto’ and pushing for full recognition of the needs of LGBT+ people both at home and abroad.
