Statement to voters

Background Brendan is married to Tricia and they have a seven-year-old son and one-year-old daughter.

Full statement

Brendan works in Greengates as a graphic designer. Originally from Halifax, he has worked in Bradford for over twenty years. He started his career working at the Victoria Hall in Saltaire before moving to the Horsfall Stadium, home to Bradford Park Avenue, before becoming a graphic designer.

Experience

Brendan is a dedicated and active campaigner and Councillor for Eccleshill Ward. He is a member of the Eccleshill Village Steering Group and Friends of Chapel Street Cemetery. He has worked alongside volunteers across Eccleshill Ward to help organise a variety of events and activities including neighbourhood clean-ups, tree and bulb planting, as well as the annual Village Fair and Christmas celebrations.

Brendan has worked alongside the Lib Dem team to protect local services, campaigned against the destruction of our green spaces and argued for greater investment in local infrastructure. Working with other Liberal Democrat councillors across Bradford, Brendan is also campaigning for greater investment in Policing, along with Council Warden and enforcement services so that we can tackle those who break the rules, damage our local environment and have had it too easy for too long.

Over five years as a councillor Brendan has successfully presented Council motions to increase enforcement action against the misuse of fireworks, to recognise and improve the support for carers across the district as well as arguing for greater support for children and the services they rely on. He has campaigned to get private landlords properly regulated and fought to protect the library, leisure and museum services. Brendan also served as the Deputy Chair of the Bradford East Area Committee. He has allocated over £20,000 to community groups and good causes across Eccleshill Ward in the past two years.

Brendan has been a strong voice for Eccleshill Ward. He has led the fight alongside residents against developers trying to carve up our green spaces and build on inappropriate sites. He successfully argued against an inappropriate development of forty homes off Bradford Road twice!

Brendan has helped many people across our area with matters large and small, bringing residents together to campaign for improvements in neighbourhoods across Eccleshill Ward. He has always been ready to pitch in and argue for our area at every level both inside and outside the Council.
