I’m Paul Smith, your truly independent candidate for the vacant Councillor position in Llandrindod South Ward.

Full statement

I’m standing because I believe residents deserve a councillor who will work solely in their best interests, free from party politics and without having to follow any party line.
I have lived in Llandrindod Wells for 15 years and am a father of three. My two youngest children attend local schools, and I am an active volunteer in our community, giving around 20 hours each month to support my son’s school as a parent governor, PTA volunteer, and reading supporter.
For the past two years, I have served as a Town Councillor, always on a completely voluntary basis, claiming no allowances or expenses. During this time, I helped instigate the Station Crescent toilet refurbishment and new Changing Places facility, supporting disabled residents to remain independent.
Professionally, I am a former Director of Adult Social Care for Herefordshire Council and currently run a successful business from my home on a full-time, flexible basis. My experience across both public service and business gives me a strong understanding of finance, governance, scrutiny, and customer service.
I believe Powys County Council can do better, and I am standing because I want to bring stronger accountability, better decision-making, and better outcomes for local residents.
While I don’t typically use social media, I have created a dedicated Facebook page for this election to make it easier for residents to contact me, discuss local issues, and access my research.
