Shaan Rafiq is proud to come from a tradition of community care – his mother was a dinner lady who became a foster carer, his father a cab driver who became a teacher.

Today, Shaan is a software engineer and a foster carer himself. Living in Haringey for the past 3 years, Shaan is standing because he wants local people to have a councillor who understands how to help residents navigate systems that can often feel confusing or unwelcoming. He is particularly interested in supporting those who need help to speak up for themselves, and in making sure council decisions are guided by fairness rather than profit.
