Like many local residents I have become pretty disillusioned with the state of politics in Britain.

But on Thursday 7th May 2026 voters in the local elections across the London Borough of Barnet and right across the country will have the opportunity of having their say in the local elections. No doubt the national picture will influence the outcome.

This year there will be a record number of candidates standing across the borough. It is nevertheless critical that people come out and cast their votes. I am standing as a Liberal Democrat for the East Barnet area.

As a resident living in the East Barnet Ward - one of the few (if any) within the boundary - and for over 25 years now, I have campaigned on various issues over the years with a track record of success. I passionately care about the area and my mission has involved amongst other things:

• Campaigning to save The Prince of Wales (‘PoW’) pub in the heart of East Barnet.
• Involved with the ‘Save New Barnet’ campaign over proposed ASDA/Tesco development with letters, PR and BBC TV coverage. Various other letters to press over library cuts.
• Liaising for around 2 years with Stonegate Group (PoW’s ex-owner) to get a dangerous tree cut back and lopped at bottom of Jackson Road, which had damaged cars. No cost to residents.
• Raising over £500 for gold leaf re-gilding of WW2 names on a War Memorial in the area.
• Managing to get several local residents off car parking fines. Street and alley cleaning efforts.

In the event I am elected for this ward I will continue my efforts as described above. Furthermore I will campaign and stand up for small businesses in the area, charities, those facing cost-of-living pressures and the environment around Green-flag status Oakhill Park.
