Statement to voters
I’ve lived in Barnet all my life and in Underhill for over 24 years, so I know the area - and the issues - extremely well.
Full statement
Over that time, I’ve worked closely with local residents, representing their concerns and helping to drive real change in our community.
In 2010, working alongside residents, I led a successful five-year campaign to protect local public open space from development, securing its registration as a Village Green following a public inquiry. Since then, I’ve continued to protect our green spaces and am now working to bring the long-derelict former Quinta Club building back into community use.
More recently, I’ve worked with residents to challenge unfair parking schemes, including Controlled Parking Zones introduced without clear evidence, and excessive parking charges at local shops that are harming small businesses. Through sustained pressure, we have already reduced the scale of one scheme and continue to push for fairer, evidence-based solutions.
I’ve also supported residents affected by stalled regeneration at Dollis Valley, worked with Barnet Hospital and the Council on parking pressures, and consistently challenged inappropriate development - particularly on Green Belt land or where it fails to reflect the character of the area. I support more genuinely affordable housing, but it must be in the right places and designed properly.
I currently serve as Chair of the Quinta Village Green Residents’ Association and previously served as a school governor at Whitings Hill Primary School, including five years as Chair. I am also a local parent and run a family business in the renewable energy sector.
I’m standing as an Independent because I believe local decisions should be driven by what’s right for Underhill - not by party politics. For too long, our area has been represented by councillors who don’t live here and don’t fully understand local needs.
Many residents already know me through the work we’ve done together. I’m not just a name on a ballot paper - I’ve been actively working for this community for years. I’m now asking for your support to continue that work from within the Council, so I can do even more for Underhill.
