My name is Douglas de Morais, and I am standing as a local candidate for South Hampstead on 7th May.

I was a member and supporter of the Conservative Party for over ten years. Over time, however, I became increasingly disillusioned, as the party shifted away from the principles and standards that once defined it. In my view, it has become too focused on internal interests rather than delivering for the country and its taxpayers.

The leadership today no longer reflects the tradition of figures such as Margaret Thatcher or Sir Winston Churchill, individuals many of us respected for their sense of duty, leadership, and commitment to the nation. Instead, there is a growing sense of detachment from the everyday concerns of ordinary people.

Although I was initially sceptical of Reform UK, my experience has changed my perspective. I have met a broad and diverse group of individuals who are united by a shared purpose: to address the real challenges facing our communities. Their focus is not on labels or division, but on practical solutions and restoring pride in our country.

Having lived in Camden for over 15 years, I care deeply about South Hampstead and the wider community. I understand both its strengths and the challenges it faces.

I believe we deserve to feel safe in our streets, confident in our neighbourhoods, and proud of where we live. Too often, that sense of security and pride has been diminished.

It is time for change. It is time to put our communities first again, something I believe the current political establishment is no longer able to deliver.
