Statement to voters
๐๐๐๐ฉ ๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ง ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฃ - I have lived in โOld Wardleyโ and Leam Lane for over 40 years, and like many of you, this isnโt just where I live itโs home.
Full statement
My family and friends are here, and Iโve grown up between both communities, giving me a real understanding of the people and the issues that matter most.
I am standing as a Labour candidate because Iโve always listened to my neighbours and the wider community, and I want to do more to support and fight for our area.
I may be new to standing for election, but I am not new to taking action locally. Iโve helped campaign to save the 69 bus service, which so many residents rely on. I also successfully pushed for a zebra crossing outside the QE Hospital after seeing how difficult it was for people to cross safely.
Iโve supported residents with individual issues too from raising housing concerns with the council to advocating for someone needing additional support. Iโve also worked with local people to raise concerns about housing developments and ensure residentsโ voices are heard.
For me, one of the biggest issues facing our community is ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐ถ ๐๐ผ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฎ๐น ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ต๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐๐ฟ. We need to feel safe where we live. I want to work closely with local police and residents to take a firm stand against this and make our area safer for everyone. Alongside this, I want to tackle ๐น๐ถ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ด, improve our ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐๐, and increase ๐๐ผ๐๐๐ต ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป so young people have better opportunities and support.
I work in healthcare as a Biomedical Scientist, with a background in public service, and I care deeply about helping others. Iโve also been involved in local activities like theatre at Heworth Grange Comprehensive School and singing with Northern Proud Voices, and Iโm passionate about encouraging young people including speaking at local events to support those interested in careers in science.
Iโm proud to be standing alongside Councillor Jill Green and Councillor Sharron Potts as part of a strong local Labour team. Together, we can continue working hard for Wardley and Leam Lane and deliver real improvements for our community.
My values are rooted in ๐ต๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ธ, ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐ and putting the ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐๐ป๐ถ๐๐ ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฟ๐๐. I want you to know that I will always listen, take action, and stand up for local people.
If you want someone who truly understands this area and has already been working to make a difference, Iโm asking for your support on 7th May. Please vote for Peter Ridden, and for Jill Green and Sharron Potts. Together, we can make Wardley and Leam Lane stronger, safer, and better for everyone.
