Statement to voters
Since being elected in 2018, I have worked closely with Cllr Doreen Dickinson and Cllr David Tilbrook to improve Stalybridge and Mottram.
Full statement
I take pride in responding quickly to local concerns, whether that is missed bin collections, fly-tipping, blocked drains, or helping families with housing and school places. If you need support, I am always here to help.
This election is about local services and the issues that affect your daily life. My focus is on creating local jobs, regenerating our town centres, reopening the market hall, protecting the greenbelt, keeping council tax down, tackling anti-social behaviour, and making our neighbourhoods cleaner and greener through increased street cleaning and tree planting.
There are more candidates standing in Stalybridge South than ever before. Reform is focusing on national issues, which the council does not control, and they have no plan to improve our area. They already have a councillor in Tameside, and he said absolutely nothing at the meeting where Labour increased your council tax. Labour has led the council for over 48 years, which has resulted in continued decline. The Independent candidate describes herself as being “best friends” with the Labour council leader, and her company has received over £46,000 from the council, which raises questions about how independent she really is.
As your councillor, I make it a priority to speak up for residents, attend meetings, and hold the council to account. Together, we have delivered two hours of free parking in our town centres, opposed proposals such as a clean air charge on driving to work, introduced an Article 4 Direction to prevent the spread of HMOs, secured investment for Stalybridge rather than Ashton, and protected our greenbelt at Sidebottom Fold and Matley Lane.
I live in Stalybridge and understand the day-to-day issues residents face. I am open about where I live and make it easy for you to contact me whenever you need help. This election is closely contested, so I would be grateful for your support to continue representing Stalybridge South.
