Marianne Jane Overton's policies
Statement to voters
“I am deeply rooted in the heart of Greater Lincolnshire, with my feet on the ground, alongside our residents.
Full statement
The Mayor and team will be responsible for planning what happens in Greater Lincolnshire on a big scale. That’s why we need a Lincolnshire Independent, dedicated to serving residents and not sucked in to one side or another.”
“Knowledge and experience; Most, if not all the work is currently done by our District and County Councils, so right on my area of expertise. Importantly, we also need to lift our sights to closer working with all parties and with Government to make the improvements we want in all parts of Greater Lincolnshire.”
Working with Government nationally and cross-party, Marianne leads in the Local Government Association as Vice Chairman, the Voice of Local Government, a membership organisation and a multi million pound company. With a decade of experience, growing her team of Independent and smaller party councillors from 6% to almost 20%, Marianne’s team now lead 64 councils are in leadership of a quarter of all councils. The success of Independent leadership and control is now well established.
Marianne works closely with Government, recently on the joint Leaders’ Council with Angela Rayner and Jim McMahon, working in advance to develop and improve the rules that will be written into the legislation, often dramatically changing what we councils do. For example, on asylum seekers, covid, planning, upholding high standards, devolution and local government reorganisation.
Marianne brought together and currently leads teams of well over 3,000 Independent and smaller party councillors, with no party whip, representing residents right across England and Wales.
To sum up, Marianne’s leadership is rooted in experience, independence, and a true commitment to the people of Greater Lincolnshire. She’s not beholden to party politics, but instead focused on the practical solutions that will make a real difference in the lives of residents. With a proven track record of working effectively with government and local councils, and leading a team of dedicated independent councillors, Marianne is uniquely positioned to drive positive change. It’s time for a leader who serves the people, not the parties—someone who can lift Greater Lincolnshire to new heights. Marianne is that leader.
