Statement to voters
I am standing for election on the 3rd May for the Labour Party in Denmead.
I have been a resident in Swanmore for several years and lived locally since birth. I have a young family and two children aged 4 and 6 and I’m also the founder and Managing Director of a business based in Durley which we launched last year despite the current political turmoil (created in no small part by the Conservative party) we have grown from strength to strength.
I am also a very active Parish Councillor in Swanmore and believe in supporting our rural economy as well as sensible development maintaining the individuality of our ever growing villages.
Our country is a fundamentally just and fair place and that in recent years under the leadership of the Conservatives the voices of the people have been largely ignored, instead focussing on a minority only interested in propping up their own bank balances. We need representation both locally and nationally which reflects the great country we are. As a business owner I believe private enterprise can do great things but fundamental services like our NHS are something we all hold dear, this is the business of all of us and should be supported, maintained and developed by the state with the best governance and experience taken from across the world.
We are by our pure nature a society which believes in helping each other and making the world a better place, not through wars but through kindness and inclusiveness in our country as a whole and in the locality. I would like to see a resurgence in community in the local area and I believe we all have an appetite for it.
I believe in a sensible building approach which provides affordable housing which isn’t just another tiny box shoehorned into the smallest possible area to maximise profit. Our local area has so much to offer that we can create new spaces for people whilst respecting our beautiful countryside and keeping the character of all of our villages.
