Statement to voters
I am asking Newbold & Brownsover residents for the opportunity to provide an active voice for the local community on the Borough Council.
Over the last few years, I have endeavoured to be an active and visible campaigner across Rugby. I'm a practical man, I believe in honesty and be upfront with people. I dislike labels and political cliques - since ideas must come from all. I champion listening and local action.
Professionally, I am retraining in Health and Social Sciences with a view to being an Operation Department Practioner, so I am delighted to see the new health centre that the community has needed for so long.
I am active in my local parks, planting wild meadows, hedgerows raising money through community grant applications, purchasing benches, Defib units and community notice boards. I believe strongly that having a social community around you is supportive and raises the well being and mental health of those who are the most vulnerable, aged and infirm. I believe Rugby's environment matters and it is being degraded and neglected in part. As an Environmentalist, I strongly oppose the 'anti-climate change' and fracking arguments supported by some local Tory councillors.
I have been an active campaigner against community cuts, coordinating the campaign which gained representation in Parliament regarding Children Centre closures which the Tory-controlled councils supported. The savage cuts affecting children services is a disgrace and would like to see this overturned in future.
I am proud to be the candidate this year to support and advance the health, social and environmental policies that retiring Cllr Claire Edwards has dedicatedly and historically supported in Newbold & Brownsover. I am asking you to afford me the chance to work and advance your community requirements.
