Full statement

He was involved in charity work as a Trustee of an organisation that offers support and counseling to asylum seekers and victims of torture.

He joined the Green Party in 2008. Since that time, he has worked for the party in Norwich, Bristol, Bradford, Sheffield, and, of course, Leeds. As a member of the Headingley party, he has supported the council candidate Tim Goodall and has also stood as a candidate for Leeds City Council. He has been Chair of the Group for Action on Leeds Bradford Airport (GALBA) since its inception in 2019. The group was formed to prevent the expansion of the airport. In 2021, we commenced a High Court action against the Secretary of State for Transport in relation to the UK government’s aviation policy. That legal action is currently awaiting trial.

He has been a Trustee of the West Yorkshire branch of the Council to Protect Rural England from 2022. Chris has lived in Weetwood since 2008, which aligns with his interest in preserving the local environment and community well-being.

Chris’s vision for the General Election 2024

I want this election to be about the issues this country faces – now and in the future.

The Green Party is the only party that is serious about tackling climate change and the many threats to our natural world: deforestation, overfishing, habitat loss. The list goes on.

We are part of the natural world: when we damage it, we damage ourselves.

But Greens also work for social justice. The UK is a very unequal society. In this rich country there is great poverty. And that is socially destructive. That’s why the Green Party is calling for a wealth tax on the richest.

You won’t hear about this from the Tories or Labour. They are squabbling with each other over who can be cruellest to asylum seekers – scapegoating some of the most vulnerable people in the world.

In this election, I ask you to look at your children and grandchildren.

Ask yourself what kind of a world do you want for them?
