Statement to voters
At this time my thoughts and condolences are with those affected by the appalling incident that took place in Manchester night, and I extend my admiration and respect for all of those who have stood together in solidarity against such an atrocity.
My name is Ian Barnett and I am the Green Party candidate for Pendle. I genuinely believe in The Green Party "For the Common Good" and fight for our NHS, improved social care, better housing, a living wage, renewable energy, an end to fracking and reversing the effects of austerity, Brexit and the divided society that it has created.
My hope is that together we can make a better future, for my family and yours.
The Green Party has big, bold ideas to create a confident and caring Britain that we can all be proud of. We aren’t afraid to hope for a better future or to be honest about how we get there. We believe in being brave, in speaking our minds, and in standing up for what matters. We are proud to do politics differently.
I will campaign for your right to vote on the final terms of the Brexit deal, including an option to stay in the EU. Brexit stands to change all of our lives and I firmly believe we, the people, should have the right to choose to accept or reject the “deal”.
I will push for genuinely affordable, warm homes for everyone whilst still protecting our beautiful countryside. I strongly oppose government plans to build new, inadequate and expensive houses on our Green Belt whilst the existing housing stock is left to fall into ruin and cause a blight throughout Pendle.
Having spent 28 years working in the NHS, it is close to my heart. I will do everything in my power to keep the NHS properly funded, free at the point of use and, most importantly, publicly owned. I believe the privatisation of the NHS and other public services is a travesty that must be stopped.
I will fight for an equal society where no one is left behind. We are all equal and should all be able to live our lives to our full potential.
I, and the Green Party as a whole, will always act strongly on climate change and to protect the natural world we love. The current government has cut funding to Green energy whilst also over ruling local councils to give permissions to fracking, proven to be even more detrimental than coal. As it stands we are moving backwards of climate change instead of forwards, that makes no sense to me and I will fight to turn that around.
Our current political system is skewed and leaves people feeling that their vote doesn’t count. There is a fairer way, a more democratic way. I will campaign for electoral reform and ensure that every persons voice is heard.
I will stand up for what matters. My promise to you, is to follow the “Green Guarantee” (https://www.greenparty.org.uk/the-green-guarantee.html) for all UK citizens.
