Statement to voters
My name is Julie Howell. I’m your Green Party candidate for mayor of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.
I live in Peterborough, a thriving city that I love and I work closely with Green party colleagues across Cambridge, Fenland, South Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire and East Cambridgeshire so I understand what matters to you wherever you are.
If I’m elected mayor I will support the establishment communities that thrive, with safe streets, friendly neighbourhoods, blossoming local businesses, affordable public transport, and homes where people feel secure.
If I’m elected mayor I will protect our natural habitats and make sure that we create better safer environments with less pollution, less harmful waste and greater care for our natural resources.
If I’m elected mayor, I will focus on creating successful transport networks that enable you to make different choices about how you travel and relieve dependency on the car.
If I’m elected mayor, I will build energy efficient houses because I want to reduce housing’s ecological footprint and end fuel poverty. I will build social housing that meets the needs of growing families and I will make sure that older people and disabled people do not become prisoners in their own homes as their needs change.
If I’m elected mayor I will warmly embrace the migrant workers who are helping us to create and maintain the villages, towns and cities of Cambridgeshire and I will invest in our younger people who deserve a strong start in their adult life by encouraging the creation of more apprenticeships and fewer exploitative unpaid internships.
I will be a listening mayor, kind and approachable but also tough and fiercely protective of what we have here. I will not support growth at any cost. If I’m the kind of mayor that appeals to you, vote Green on the May the 4th 2017.
