Statement to voters

Beki Sellick is a professional railway engineer and manager, who works in the real world - national and international, public and private industry.

She’s a lifelong Liberal Democrat, who settled in Peterborough with her daughter in 2008. She volunteers to help build up our local community: Beki chairs her local Residents Association. She has led petitions e.g. since the Referendum on practical and emotional support for Peterborough’s 17,000 EU citizens, facilitating social cohesion and stimulating effective action by bringing them to the City Council.

Beki is passionate about empowering people – creating an inclusive culture where everyone is able to thrive, enabled by honest and positive politics. She is determined that politicians make deliverable promises (as in the LibDems’ properly costed manifesto) and will implement policies based on evidence, irrespective of ideology.
3 layers of experience Beki brings to being MP (with a few examples):

Local: Beki is her family’s breadwinner – she’s set up her own Innovations, Engineering and Business consultancy in Peterborough, bringing University researchers and industry entrepreneurs together. She volunteers as a member of the city’s Fairtrade steering group and on her GP’s Patient Participation Group, and has been a School Governor.

National: Beki works with the National Infrastructure Commission to help prioritise investment and develop jobs in the UK, providing greener and more accessible transport for people and freight.

International: as a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Beki chairs international conferences and advises governments on strategies. She would use the opportunities presented by integrated transport and autonomous vehicles to grow Peterborough’s circular economy and sustainably transfer wealth from overheating London and unaffordable Cambridge into Peterborough’s housing, jobs and university.
