Statement to voters
I stood for election as your Councillor as I want to make Edinburgh a better place to live, work and bring up a family.
I have lived in Edinburgh since 1996 and it fills me with pride that the city can attract people from around the world to visit, study or work. However, walking around our streets I also feel a little ashamed about what international visitors see.
Our roads are potholed. Too often, our footpaths are grubby and the bins are overflowing. I see this every day on my cycle to work from my home in Buckstone. This is not a criticism of the City of Edinburgh Council’s hardworking staff, their budget has been cut year-on-year and it’s right that education and social care are protected as much as possible.
This year, however, our Council Tax bills will rise and I want to ensure that money is well spent and that Colinton, Oxgangs & Faimilehead Ward gets its fair share.
