Statement to voters

Rebecca Hanson taught maths in secondary schools with many challenges before going on to lecture in maths education at MMU and for the OU, work at national level and run her own teacher training business.

Full statement

She is a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching.

She joined the Lib Dems in response to Michael Gove’s decision to cancel consultation on education policy, worked for three years on national education policy development and now has unique expertise in public sector regulation policy.

Rebecca is a County Councillor who played a key role in saving her local maternity services and is now working to sort out the UK’s worst youth mental health crisis. Her book ‘Healthcare Coproduction – A Personal Account’ gives some insight into how she has addressed these issues.

Rebecca was a high-profile Lib Dem by-election candidate in 2017 when she became the first parliamentary candidate to live-stream every night – taking questions in real time.

Rebecca is also a respected environmental campaigner who proposed and successfully defended Cumbria County County Council’s policy to make the whole of Cumbria (not just the Council) carbon neutral.

Rebecca now shares her time between Bootle – Liverpool (where her husband works and her daughter is at a local state primary) and Cockermouth Cumbria, while she completes her term as County Councillor.
