This election is vital.

Full statement

It’s about securing Theresa May’s strong and stable leadership to make Brexit a success, and locking in the economic progress we have made.

Thanks to a strong economy delivered by the Conservatives, we have been able to invest in the NHS. We will build on this with a further £8 billion in real terms over the next five years.

We will introduce a new Metal Health Bill to give treatment of mental health parity with physical health, extend protections at work for people with mental illness, and deliver 10,000 more NHS staff working in mental health. We have already put an additional £2 billion into social care. We will ensure you never have to sell your home to cover care home fees, and put an absolute limit on what you do need to pay.

Workers’ rights will be extended. There will be new rights for those who have to leave work due to child bereavement or to care for loved ones, an enhanced role for workers on company boards, and an increase in the National Living Wage.

We will increase the overall schools budget by £4 billion in real terms by 2022 and ensure that no school loses out in cash terms from the new funding formula. We will provide free school breakfasts to all children in primary school whilst also protecting free school lunches for children from lower income families, giving these children two free school meals a day.

The choice on 8 June is clear. It is a choice between Theresa May, who will deliver on Brexit, or a coalition of chaos and instability led by Jeremy Corbyn, putting all our futures at risk. A vote for me will strengthen Theresa May’s hand in the upcoming negotiations and help deliver the best possible deal.
