Statement to voters

I live in Torry and I’m a member of Torry Community Council. I worked in the Torry Advice Centre during the late 1980s and was a youth worker in Torry for 13 years. Until my retirement I was an Adult Education Worker at Linksfield School, creating a resource that’s still used throughout Scotland. I currently work part-time with people with learning difficulties, and I’m involved with local activism across Aberdeen.

Ferryhill and Torry are being short-changed on environmental issues. I stand with the community in their concerns over the proposed incinerator beside Tullos Primary School. Traffic congestion and pollution from the incinerator will affect all local people, and residents’ needs must be considered. The Bay of Nigg development has also robbed the community of its only large green space.

I support small businesses and community cooperatives that serve local people and provide good local jobs. Regeneration is only useful if it helps local businesses remain in the community. It should also support diversity, encourage creativity and attract tourism. Larger companies must provide community payback for local facilities.

The Scottish Greens believe in social justice and environmental sustainability. We want to build a better world for everyone.
