Statement to voters

LIZ HARSANT – A STRONG VOICE FOR RESIDENTS IN HOLYWELLS
Liz Harsant has been a resident of Ipswich for many years and a Councilor for 17.

Full statement

In this time, she has been leader of Ipswich Borough Council and worked timelessly to empower residents to improve their neighbourhoods and lives.
She has been instrumental in the Waterfront Regeneration project; The Suffolk University build and the renovation of Holywells Park. Most recently working with the Rivers Action Group to represent residents opposed to the Upper Orwell Crossing which was retracted.
Liz has secured funding to help refurbish the facilities of Patrick’s Boxing Club in York Road, a club that helps young adults to spend time getting fit, active and off the streets. Liz would like Ipswich Borough Council to recognise Patrick’s as a great community asset and other facilities in Ipswich that also serve the community. ‘More facilities like Patrick’s can be the lifeblood for younger adults and help reduce antisocial behaviour. We need more funding from our Borough to provide these vital services,’ explains Liz.
Liz is a compassionate, dedicated Councilor and if re-elected she will be working to: • Tackle antisocial behavior. • Combat parking and traffic congestion especially due to the closing of the Orwell Bridge in extreme winds. • Improve mental health services by working to reduce waiting times for residents, so they can access support services quickly.
“Improving services and facilities will combat antisocial behavior and improve the neighborhoods we all live in. I want to empower residents and communities to live well and be safe in our town,’ said Liz.
YOUR PRIORITIES ARE MY PRIORITIES
RESIDENTS FIRST, PARTY SECOND
Liz has always put the interests of her residents first, even when it has clashed with her party's views. She worked with the Rivers Action Group representing residents opposed to the Upper Orwell Crossing, which helped result in the scheme's cancellation.
BOXING CLEVER!
Liz has worked with Patrick’s Boxing Club in York Road which helps and encourages young people to take up boxing as a sport. The gym was badly in need of renovation and Liz managed to obtain funding for this. Schemes like this can provide opportunities for young people and help reduce anti-social behaviour. If re-elected, Liz will fight for more to be done for young people in the area.
LIZ GETS THINGS DONE
Liz has established two defibrillators in Holywells Ward, one in Duke Street and one at the Margaret Catchpole Bowls Club (pictured). She also opened the Baby Bereavement Garden which she was instrumental in helping with. As your Councillor for 17 years, Liz is well known as someone who gets things done.
