Statement to voters
"Hello, I am Neil Dirveiks and for eleven years I have had the privilege of representing Atherstone Central on the Borough Council.
As a long term resident, I am keen to preserve the true character of the town so that it makes life better for the people who live here. I know how important it is to have a vibrant town centre and good health services helping the development of children and adults. All Atherstone schools are rated as ‘good’ and I have recently agreed to become a Governor at Outwoods Junior School to help maintain and improve that standard.
Whilst encouraging new businesses, I have been outspoken in preserving the appearance of our town, particularly its listed buildings, and I will continue to promote and welcome any new planning that will convert the Britannia Works hat factory from an eyesore to residences.
Central Ward has particular problems with parking and lack of space for bins and I will try to help whenever I can. There is still much to be done, we need more social housing and infrastructure such as doctors, schools and roads for the new houses that we are being asked to accept, tourism needs to be encouraged to support our shops so Atherstone stays the bustling town it is today.
My wife and I have been supporters of Edible Links (Food Bank) since its inception and we are both committed to ensuring this, and all the other Borough services, continue helping people in difficult times.
Sadly, Lorna, my wife is stepping down this election due to arthritis but she will continue to support me in representing you as well as working on the history of the area."
