Statement to voters

Margaret has lived in Mid Worcestershire for 30 years.

Full statement

Until recently she worked as a senior manager in the NHS. She has been a councillor on Wychavon District Council for 26 years and leader of the opposition since 1999. Through her employment and as a local councillor she has built up a wealth of experience of service management in the public sector.

This will be the second time Margaret has been the Liberal Democrat candidate for West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner. Margaret says "Local people, and particularly the elderly, are telling us that they feel vulnerable because they so rarely see any sign of the police in their area. With the net reduction of police staffing levels there is a problem maintaining a visible presence. Although non-violent crime levels have fallen during the pandemic, other demands on the police are growing, include those created by trying to impose the chaotic and constantly changing restrictions due to Covid.

Liberal Democrats believe that preventing crime and ensuring that people feel safe is crucial. We aim to ensure that the Police have the right resources to provide high quality community policing, effective in preventing and reducing crime, working closely with other services. By refocusing on these fundamental principles, Liberal Democrat Police and Crime Commissioners can lead the way towards creating a truly effective police force fit for the 21st century. .
