Statement to voters
About Greg Smith I am delighted to be standing as the Green party candidate for the Mid Bucks constituency.
Full statement
It is an honour to carry forward Green Party policies on behalf of Buckinghamshire residents. I am committed to local communities, local business and good quality local services. If elected I will continue to challenge the central government attack on local democracy. Local communities are best placed to make decisions about how taxes are spent, how services are delivered and where development should take place. The NHS, social care and education needs to be properly funded with staff paid appropriately for their work and hopefully spending their money in their local communities, supporting local business. I have lived and worked in Buckinghamshire for 25 years. Throughout this time I have been involved with many local projects and community schemes. In 2020 I became an elected Green Party councillor for Buckinghamshire Unitary Authority. I have had a successful career in Criminal Justice, Initially working in HM Prisons and Probation Service, moving to a development role within the Ministry of Justice and managing projects within victim related charities. My work in the community As an environmentalist, I am deeply committed to the well-being of our community and the planet. For me, climate change requires local action to achieve global change. Addressing the climate and biodiversity crisis is a vital thread that runs through all policy areas and every aspect of our lives. Without focus and determination we are simply passing on a much bigger problem to future generations. I proud to be involved in a range of community activities, including: a founding member and chair of Zero Carbon Haddenham Part of the group who initiated the Townsend Community Orchard Helping to organise the Feast Festival , a local arts festival bringing together local arts, social and cultural groups. Initiating the community action to buy out the Haddenham greengrocer when it was threatened with closure. Blooming Fruity remains a thriving community owned greengrocer. a member of Haddenham Parish Council Helping set to up the local youth competitive swimming club, Thame Swimming Club. My work as a councillor Through the hard work of Green Party activists and my focus on work in the community I was able to secure a considerable electoral majority at the County level election in 2021. Working in Buckinghamshire Unitary Authority has allowed me to engage with many areas of government and the issues facing local people. I sit on a number of committees and attend a range of events and forums across the county. My political stance is deeply influenced by the pressing need to combat climate change. I am committed to upholding my principles and beliefs while maintaining a strong dedication to working with any politician, organization, or community group in a respectful and dignified manner to achieve these vital goals. We do politics differently.
