Statement to voters
I entered local politics, like most Councillors do, when passionate about a local issue as a resident.
Full statement
I became a District Cllr in 2012, taking over reigns at a bi election and carrying on residents’ representations over Pinewood Studios expansion plans and the planning permissions that followed. My first representations on behalf of the Ivers community were at various public enquiry planning hearings that followed on.
Then re-elected in 2015 and selected for a Cabinet position for Environment at the former South Bucks District council. One of my first tasks in this role was to ‘roll out’ the wheelie bins replacing black sack waste collection. I recall meeting many of you who had concerns, and I was happy to attend, listen and take on your points of view.
Over the years I have learned local governance and have in-depth knowledge on all our council services. I have led various working groups over the years, installing road safety schemes, playground equipment, community planters and been with you at various local meetings affecting us all.
The role of a councillor is to support their community, be their representative at the many statutory council meetings, mostly based in Aylesbury, and support residents locally with their enquiries, complaints and issues.
I have been a Conservative for many political years but resigned from this party some 18 months ago due to the state of national politics and local conservative control and dominance.
Conservative decisions were made that do not support or align with us locally, these decisions angered, frustrated, and disappointed me.
Becoming Independent means that I am not tied, led or beholden to any political party and their agenda.
My focus and agenda are always on what is best for the residents of The Ivers.
With multiple infrastructure changes and development schemes coming forward, it is important to have an experienced representative who understands governance and holds your Council to account by representation, to protect our local area by a person who listens and understands the community and knows The Ivers needs and aspirations.
With your vote I commit to continue representing you and collaborating with fellow Councillors and Council Officers to keep the Ivers a vibrant and safe place to live.
Kind regards
Luisa
