Gareth Dowling's policies
Statement to voters
Gareth has spent his entire adult life living and working in West Lancashire, volunteering within the local community and campaigning for improvements to residents’ lives.
Full statement
During his time as a councillor on West Lancashire Borough Council, Gareth has secured significant funding for projects and organisations across Burscough & Rufford including:
- Burscough Dynamo FC
- Richmond Park pitch improvements
- £3million+ Burscough Sports Centre
- Canal towpath investment
- Holmeswood Play Area and MUGA
- Rufford bus shelters and park play area
- Burscough Community Farm
- Images of Burscough and surrounding areas
- Friends of Bescar Lane Station
Over the past ten years Gareth has campaigned for flood prevention improvements and against the closure of pumping stations across the Alt-Crossens catchment area. As LCC is the Lead Local Flood Authority, Gareth would prioritise this area of work, including keeping the pumping stations operational, considering the move to a Water Level Management Board, and protecting residents’ homes.
Other priority areas include
- Restoration of 7-day tip opening
- Solution to incessant digging up of Liverpool Road Nth/Sth
- Improved rail services
- Electric Vehicle charging rollout
Aside from council, Gareth is Vice Chair of Knowsley Mutual Credit Union serving residents across Burscough & Rufford, he is both a primary and secondary school governor, supports SWLICAN (Independent Community Advice Network) and is a member of West Lancashire’s community renewable energy group – setup to reduce energy costs and invest in our community.
Gareth also loves walking his dog, playing rugby, 5-a-side football and running!
