Statement to voters

My name is Dorian Davies and I am standing as your prospective Independent Councillor for the Mumbles Ward in the local elections on Thursday 18th June 2026.

Full statement

As a passionate Mumbles resident, I care deeply about our community and the issues that affect people’s everyday lives. I am standing as an independent candidate because I want to focus on the concerns of local residents rather than party politics. I would be keen to forge a meaningful working relationships with the current councillors immaterial of their political allegiances.

I have lived in Mumbles for over 26 years I am married with two daughters, my wife Sue’s family history dates back to well over 100 years in Mumbles. I am deeply embedded in the local community and involved with many local organisations.

One of the major issues throughout the ward is the poor condition of our roads. Potholes are causing unnecessary damage to vehicles and costing residents money. These problems have been neglected for far too long and need urgent attention.

I am also very concerned about the condition of the public toilets throughout the area. Irregular opening times, poor cleanliness and lack of maintenance create a terrible impression for both residents and visitors alike. Mumbles deserves facilities that reflect the pride we have in our community.

I feel particularly strongly about welfare, social issues and the growing problem of loneliness affecting vulnerable residents and the elderly. Too many people in our community feel isolated or overlooked, and I intend to do something meaningful to help address this. I already organise a local Men’s Society and over the years I have experienced firsthand the benefits of what interaction brings to our members as I did during the covid years whilst speaking to people on the phone whilst taking orders for food delivery from the Village Carvery.

E-bikes and e-scooters - the impact of anti-social and irresponsible e-bike riders along the prom is a major concern. Pedestrians have already been seriously injured. Use should be restricted by local regulation or byelaw but at present neither exist. I will campaign and build evidence initially for a controlled use scheme to be implemented between Verdi’s and Blackpill. I want to make Mumbles Prom Safe for Pedestrians again. One of my first jobs would be to organise a petition.

I am aware of the difficulties businesses are facing in the Ward, having been on the frontline for many years. My door will always be open and I will assist you.

With only 11 months remaining before residents are once again asked to vote, I am not going to make unrealistic promises that cannot be delivered in this short time. What I can promise is honesty, hard work and a genuine commitment to doing my very best to facilitate the improvements and support our community deserves.

I believe the experience I have gained through success and hardship over the years will stand me in good stead. I have a strong voice and will put MUMBLES FIRST.

I would be grateful for the opportunity to represent you and your concerns.

Please give me a chance and vote for Dorian Davies, your Independent candidate for Mumbles Ward.
