Full statement
Commenting on his selection, Rob said: "I'm very pleased to have been given the opportunity to fight the Truro and Falmouth seat for the General Election. As a local businessman with a wife, Moyra who is a Nurse working in the NHS, I feel keenly the effects of government policy.
Cornwall faces unprecedented challenges, and the County needs a strong voice fighting its corner in Westminster.
"This is an immense challenge, but it's one that I'm more than ready to take on. We need a strong, sensible and credible opposition now more than ever.
"Over the past nine years I've served on the planning committees firstly on Carrick District Council and more recently on Cornwall Council, and in that time I've seen the Government take powers from local councillors and make life easier and easier for developers, to the point that we can hardly refuse anything.
"Meanwhile, Cornwall has become one of the poorest parts of Northern Europe. Under the Tories the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. We need an MP with a reputation for speaking out, and making tough decisions. Cornwall is a wonderful place but it shouldn't just be a playground for second home-owners. It needs to be a place where all can thrive, but in particular our fantastic young people, who have so much to offer."
