Full statement
She attended school in Tulse Hill and has lived in Lambeth for most of her life. Nicole’s passion for her local community in Streatham led her to stand as a Councillor.
Following a 20-year career as a freelance Company Stage Manager in the theatre Nicole lived in Portugal and then France for seven years, where she set up a small property management business. More recently, she worked as the Arts Support Officer at a secondary school and at a Visual Arts organisation for people with learning disabilities. Nicole has just completed a three-year degree in Applied Social Science, Community Development and Youth Work at Goldsmiths university.
Nicole was elected in 2018 as a Councillor for St Leonard’s ward, and co-leads the Green Group with Jonathan Bartley. She sits on Lambeth Council's Corporate Parenting Board, the Children’s Services Sub-Scrutiny Committee, and the Appointments Board. Nicole led the campaign in 2019 to stop the closure of the local Children’s Centre, the Streatham Hub. She also successfully fought for the refurbishment of five houses in Tooting Bec Gardens, used by the council as temporary accommodation.
A Green Party member and campaigner for many years, Nicole is committed to social, environmental and climate justice. She works alongside XR and other Lambeth-based environmental groups on climate change. Nicole was responsible for the wording of the Climate Emergency Motion unanimously passed by the council in January 2019.
As well as her work as a Councillor, Nicole is also actively involved in a variety of local social and environmental initiatives. She was instrumental in setting up the environmental group Plastic Free Streatham and is currently developing a sustainable living workshop for schools. Nicole sits on the Streatham Action committee and is a Steering Group member and volunteer youth worker with Streatham Youth and Community Trust. She also works closely with Inspirational Youth, the Streatham BID (Business District), the Spires, the Woodfield Project and other local community groups.
Nicole is passionate about ensuring the wellbeing of every individual in the community and committed to tackling financial and social inequality. She is an advocate for the rights of young people and acutely aware of the discrimination faced by a whole generation of young people in Lambeth.
I am very proud that we were the first London council to declare a Climate Emergency. But getting families rehoused out of sub-standard accommodation, women and children out of domestic violence situations and dealing with local issues that really impact residents' everyday lives, reminds me why I became a Councillor.
