Statement to voters
I would be a strong MP opposing the Conservatives’ cuts to almost every local school, who will fight the closure of our Norton Manor Camp and speak up for public service, and who will stand for a better world for our children and young people, giving them a stake in the future of our country.
The Conservatives’ chopping the LibDems’ guaranteed annual 2.5% pension increase is also wrong, and their ‘tax’ on the cost of care will mean people will have to give up the value of their home if they suffer from long term conditions like dementia. This is the new hardline Conservative Party and we need an MP to stand up to it – that is my promise to you. I have had my own career and have no interest in the Ministerial greasy pole, my offer is to stand up for you and everyone across this constituency without fear or favour. As more and more of my posters go up people are now flocking to my campaign. Whichever way they voted in the referendum people know he dangers of the extreme Theresa May/Nigel Farage approach antagonises neighbouring countries. You know that crashing out without a deal would be a serious disaster for trade, jobs and prices right here where we live. I want us to unite around protecting the best of our links abroad. People don’t want to write any Party a blank cheque in this election and know the wisdom of the final deal in two years’ time being subject to a vote by the people, especially by our young people whose lives will be most affected by it.
I will stand up for you against the Government whenever they get things wrong. On protecting our incomes and jobs, our precious environment, our pensions and our care in later life, the Conservatives must not be allowed to make you suffer. We need a strong MP to take them on when it matters, to give opportunities to younger people and secure a better future for our area here in Somerset where I grew up. I will be that strong MP.
