Statement to voters
I am passionate about social justice. i have been an unpaid church leader, school governor (primary and secondary) and Chair of Trustees of a residential care home in inner city London for many years. So I have firsthand experience of the issues that people face and the help that is so often required. I currently run my own business in Brockley, have lived through three recessions, and enjoy experiencing the opportunities and challenges of living and working in this area.
In this election, of first importance is the protection of the vulnerable - whether granting full rights to EU Citizens resident here before we start Brexit negotiations or ensuring the disabled have their benefits restored or that refugees (especially unaccompanied children) are welcomed or protecting the unborn and the elderly - the measure of our society is by the way we treat those who are the most vulnerable. But part of that is having an economy that encourages wealth creation, with fair taxation. So ensuring the multi-nationals pay their contribution through a turnover tax whilst not unfairly penalising those whose entrepreneurial skills ensure jobs for others. And with the wealth that our society produces then being used productively for the common good - so not renewing Trident, but using the bulk of those savings to improve the NHS and its patient care, keeping it free at the point of delivery. With the emphasis always being on increasing patient care and improving outcomes. Similarly with education, but here also abolishing tuition fees.
