Statement to voters

I would like to start by introducing myself.

Full statement

I am no stranger to public service having served on Enfield Council since I was first elected in May 2018. I was born in Chase Farm hospital and attended St Andrew’s Primary School in Churchbury Lane and Bishop Stopford’s Secondary School in Brick Lane. I chose Enfield as my home and am proud to live in the town I was born and grew up in. In my spare time I volunteer as a Cub Scout Leader with the 4th Enfield (St Andrew’s) Scout Group.

I am passionate about Enfield and have spoken out as a Local Councillor against our local Labour led Council and the appalling way they choose to run the borough. In Enfield, sadly, we are all paying significantly more in Council Tax for less services, such as the removal of our weekly bin collections. I am seeking to represent the Enfield North constituency in Parliament where if elected I will champion Enfield and be a strong voice in Westminster for the issues that affect Enfield.

This election we face clear choice between the safety and security offered by our Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, or the uncertainty that a government led by Sir Keir Starmer would undoubtedly bring. Since the last election the Conservative Government has led the Country through three significant shocks. Firstly, we were hit by a worldwide pandemic, as if that wasn’t enough, we then had the illegal invasion of the Ukraine by Putin which caused havoc with energy prices and caused significant inflation across the western world. Finally, we have had conflict in the middle east which sadly continues.

Throughout the Pandemic the government worked hard to protect our economy through the development of the vaccine and the furlough scheme. These kinds of economic shocks are unusual, and we have had three in a relatively short space of time. This makes it all the more remarkable that the government has worked hard to bring inflation under control which is now back where it should be. This has meant that the government is now able to start to reduce the tax burden on the British public. We live in extraordinary times and my pitch to you would be that this is no time to change horse and risk all the progress that has been made during the last two very tough years.

Locally we can see first hand what happens when Labour is in charge. Enfield Council is the tenth most indebted Council in the Country. Labour have recklessly borrowed to fund the Meridian Water development. This wouldn’t have been so bad if they had built the 10,000 homes that were planned. Unfortunately, for us, the Enfield Council Taxpayer, there are only a handful of homes to show for our millions, the incompetence is staggering. We are now paying dearly for this with one tenth of our Council Tax payments servicing Labour’s debt interest. This money could be being spent on front line services which are being cut.

Then we turn to Labour's draft local plan which is nothing short of a wholesale attack on our precious green belt. Labour wants to recreate something resembling Edmonton Green all over our precious Green fields at Crew's Hill, Vicarage Farm and the historic Chase Park. This would be a total disaster for Enfield, Sir Kier has already said that he would reform the planning system to make this kind of development easier.

When it comes to transportation look how the Labour Mayor of London is taxing the poorest with his disastrous ULEZ expansion. This is doing nothing to reduce pollution, as is claimed, it is just taxing the poorest in our society who cannot afford a compliant car. Enfield Council continue with Labour’s anti car agenda with their unpopular low traffic neighbourhood schemes. All this has done is create divided communities with increased pollution on the perimeter roads.

Only a Conservative Government will overrule Mayor Khan and put a stop to his disastrous ULEZ tax. Only the Conservatives will protect our precious Green Belt from Labour. Only the Conservatives can be trusted to make the difficult decisions needed to help the economy continue to improve.

In conclusion, The big question I have for you is it worth risking five years of Labour with Starmer & Rayner and their Socialist colleagues destroying the progress we have made in recent years? I love Enfield, I care about our community and would dedicate myself to be your voice in Westminster.
